Push-ups and sit-ups are great exercises that you can do at home. Unfortunately, lots of people don’t know how to do them correctly. Because of that, they don’t get the most out of the exercises. The good news is it is really easy to learn the proper way to do push-ups and sit-ups. Take a moment to learn how to do them, and then you can start incorporating them into your workout routine.
The Proper Way to do Push-ups
Get down on the ground and place your hands out just a bit further than your shoulders. You can choose the angle that feels the most comfortable to you. This angle may change over time, as you get stronger.
Once your hands are in position, check your feet. They should be shoulder width apart. However, if that doesn’t feel comfortable, you can bring them in. You can have them touch if that is comfortable to you. However, the closer your feet are together, the harder it will be for you to balance when you go up and down. Thus, you should try to keep them shoulder width apart, especially if you are a beginner.
Keep your body as straight as possible. You might need to engage your core in order to get your body to stay in a straight line. It will also be easier to keep your body in a straight line if you look ahead slightly instead of down.
Straighten your arms and use them to support your weight. Then, you need to bend your arms slowly until your chest hits the ground. Make sure you keep your elbows close to your body while you go down.
Pause for a second once you hit the ground, and then go back up.
It is important to note that you might not be able to make it all the way down to the ground, especially when you’re first starting out. If you can’t go all the way to the ground, just go down until your elbows bend at a ninety degree angle. Then, you can come back up and repeat the process.
Now let’s look at the proper way to do sit-ups.
The Proper Way to do Sit-ups
Lay down on your back, with your knees up and your feet on the ground. Then, put your left hand on your right shoulder, and your right hand on your left shoulder.
Engage your abdominal muscles and focus your eyes on your knees. Move up from the ground. Lead with your head, and follow with your shoulders. Continue going up until your elbows meet your knees. Hold the position for one second, and then go back down. Then, repeat the process.
Now that you know the proper way to do push-ups and sit-ups, you can start exercising at home. You won’t have to worry about driving to the gym or paying that high monthly membership. You can get fit, and you won’t ever have to leave the house.
